A film that depicts the image of Polish society at the turn of 20th century. It is an artistic combination of works of the most outstanding Polish writers with newspaper articles and facts that together make a synthetic picture of two families living in Cracow in 1874-1914.
1. “Cracow 1874”: Two beautiful, young women – Mrs. Chomińska, the wife of a bank clerk, and her sister Aniela, also engaged to a clerk – lead a boring, monotonous life in a poor and neglected town. The only attraction that the town has to offer are the monuments, Matejko’s paintings and celebrations of patriotic events. The protagonists expect more from life and throw a dance party. They dream that the ball will change their fate, but the party devolves into a series of embarrassing misunderstandings, arguments and scandals.
